645 Grant Road – Schematic Study This project explores four architectural proposals for a live-work studio designed for a lawyer seeking retreat, focus, and connection to the landscape. Each version presents a distinct spatial strategy integrating work, rest, and minimal living functions within a compact, elevated structure.
V1 – Nested Volumes and Drawbridge Entry Two raised forms—one at 3 feet, the other at 15—separate work and sleep across levels, linked by a transitional entry deck accessed via barn doors and a drawbridge. A double-height workspace with an exposed fireplace anchors the interior, while the kitchen is concealed to maintain spatial clarity.
V2 – Enclosure, Continuity, and Outdoor Integration This version emphasizes enclosed volumes and refined circulation, with a shared fireplace at the center and partially covered outdoor space extending the interior. The layout balances architectural formality with openness to the surrounding environment.
V3 – Compact Strategy with Linear Zoning The most efficient scheme, V3 divides the program into three linear zones: guest, work, and sleep. Its reduced footprint and direct spatial logic define a clear architectural parti where structure, nature, and use are linked along a singular axis.
V4 – Vertical Section and Lofted Reading Room A vertically expressive option with three-story openings, V4 pairs a double-height work studio below with a lofted bedroom and reading space above. Concealed kitchen, storage, and tech elements support a focused work life, while wood finishes and sectional drama ground the building in place.
